
Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) is a synthetic, inorganic gas
composed of one sulfur atom bonded to six fluorine atoms. It is widely
recognized as the premier electrical insulator in the world, though it carries
a massive environmental footprint due to its status as a potent greenhouse gas.
Chemical Structure & Core Properties
SF6 features a highly symmetrical octahedral molecular geometry. This unique
chemical configuration provides it with remarkable stability and performance
characteristics:
• High Density: It is five times heavier than air, remaining in vapor form up
to roughly 250 PSI at room temperature.
• Dielectric Strength: It boasts exceptional electrical insulation properties
